4-Day Advanced Fusing Workshop with Richard La Londe

Using Float Glass and Bullseye Glass COE 90

⦁ Create a “Mandala” and a “Cave Painting” using Bullseye Glass.

⦁ Create a “Leaf Plate” and a “Sagged Vessel” using float glass, silver foil, and vitreous enamels.

⦁ Each participant will create a Reusable Slumping Mold made of Sand and Clay.

⦁ Each participant will make two Aluminum Hangers for their projects.

⦁ Four days of intense study and advanced fusing techniques.

Bullseye Glass

We begin by creating a Mandala with “tested compatible” Bullseye 4mm sheet glass, crushed glass frit mixtures, La Londe’s personalized Liquid Glass Line Method, and a multiple firing. We will also make a “multi-layer” cave painting using frit on the kiln shelf, a 3mm sheet of clear glass, the “liquid glass line” and sifted frit and stencils. Then we will fabricate an aluminum mounting system for these two tiles.

Float Glass

Explore float glass (window glass), vitreous enamels, silver foil. Fuse, slump, and sag a plate and a vessel. We will work with Thompson vitreous enamels and you will learn how to distinguish the “tin side” from the “air side” of float glass, how to fuse silver foil with glass which can enhance your artwork. Learn about firing float glass and stopping devitrification. Create your own molds for slumping and sagging. These techniques can also be used with Bullseye 90 and System 96.

Richard La Londe is known for his brightly colored images drawn with crushed glass and fused into murals and vessels. He has written two informative books, Richard La Londe: Fused Glass Art and Technique and Richard La Londe and Friends – Book II.

La Londe began fusing in 1980 and was one of the original glass fusing instructors for Bullseye Glass Company This is a rare opportunity to study and interact with a pioneer in glass fusing.
